Natural Resource Management |
Natural Resources Management Projects wing was started 10 years ago as a part of the ‘Holistic Development’ policy when SPMESM project champions realized that the common rural man usually falls prey to the vicious cycle of rural ‘Poverty- Unemployment- Lack of Opportunities- Health Issues- Poverty’! Later the initiatives have been separated in two departments NRM and Sustainable Development. NRM wing of SPMESM today has reached up to 4 districts and over 100 villages and is working with the most adversely affected section of the Global Climate Change- the small and marginal farmers for their Water and Soil Conservation. The Marathawada region of Maharashtra is infamous for its recurrent droughts and its consequences on the human life. Keeping in mind the need of the region, we have started multiple watershed development and micro-irrigation projects that have led to farmers seeing more than 100% increase in their produce. As a result, the mass migration to cities has been significantly reduced and youngsters are now looking upon farming as a serious livelihood option. |
